Forest-grown seed is slightly smaller than cultivated seed (about 8500 seeds to a lb.) , and is better adapted than cultivated seeds for forest plantings.  Planting rates of 25 to 30 pounds an acre are best for disease control. Diseases may still occur at these rates , but its spread can be better controlled with cultural practices.
